Lunar Eclipse 26th June 2010 Part I of II

On 26th June 2010 there is a Full Moon Lunar
Eclipse in Capricorn.  This eclipse aligns with Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn in Virgo to form a grand cross and is an extremely significant and powerful event.

In this article I am not going to discuss that eclipse (that is for part 2 of this series), but instead look at the eclipse family that underlies that Full Moon.  Each eclipse is part of a cycle that began at a particular point in time and ends at a certain point in time.  This cycle is known as the Saros cycle - more information on the astronomy of this can be found here.  In Astrology the 'birth' of the first partial eclipse provides an essence of the energy of the repeating cycle.  As Bernadette Brady mentions in her book 'Predictive Astrology - The Eagle and the Lark', they are like trees that grow - subsequent eclipses from the first are like leaves that still contain the essence of the seed.

So, the 'family' associated with the lunar eclipse of the 26th June 2010 first began on 19th September 1541 at 20:45 (Saros 12 South).  We therefore look to this chart for further information (see below).

This chart is very heavily weighted in the sign of Libra - five planets are in that sign - The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Saturn.  We can therefore deduce that partnerships, relationships, logic, negotiation, peace and harmony form part of the makeup of this eclipse.

Because of the planets all stacked up in Libra there is a 'conjunction pathway' - i.e. a pattern of energy from the Sun and Moon through to Saturn.  By looking at the pattern from one planet to the next we might be able to deduce the nature of this pattern and what it might say about the inflection of energy surrounding this eclipse.  For this purpose I'll use the Sabian Symbols:

Sun/Moon: A woman feeding chickens and protecting them from the hawks
Nurturing, protecting, shielding from harm, home and responsibilities.
Mercury: Circular Paths
Going around and around in circles in negative cycles, repeating patterns of thought
Venus: A crowd upon a beach
Gatherings, getting back to a more harmonious and natural way of life and relating
Saturn: An airplane sails high in the bright clear sky
Freedom, transcending, detaching and looking down on situations, travel and movement

So, we see an eclipse cycle that concerns itself with self nurturing, protection and taking care of our needs, being locked into negative repeating patterns that we need to exorcise ourselves from and the need to rebalance, harmonise and so transcend - loosening shackles and breaking down barriers.  An exalted Saturn in Libra is strong as is Venus in its own sign and their conjunction perhaps shows that such nurturance and harmony might be difficult to achieve.  The Mars/Uranus conjunction provides opportunities for new ways to express and emerge - the Mars symbol being 'Daybreak, the luminescence of dawn in the eastern sky' is in a nice Sextile to Saturn and Venus, which teases that ultimately the end results of the process we go through will be positive.

Perhaps the strongest feature of this chart is the Yod aspect between Pluto in Aquarius, Neptune in Aries and the apex of Jupiter conjunct the South Node in Virgo.  Pluto's Sabian reads 'A train entering a tunnel' - shortcuts, getting to the point quickly and entering the dark.  Neptune reads 'An empty hammock hangs between two lovely trees' - Detachment, rest, recuperation.  The symbol for Jupiter reads 'A volcanic eruption bringing dust clouds, flowing lava, earth rumblings' and the South Node 'A caravan of cars headed for promised lands'.  So, we see a release from past associations or difficulties of volcanic type proportions that are perhaps emotionally charged and stressful.

The North Node of the chart reads 'A table set for an evening meal'.  It seems that the overall feel of this eclipse is one of taking care of ourselves and our relationships, wanting new resolutions to old problems, finding it difficult to adjust when breakthroughs occur that are highly charged but the overall feel is positive and nourishing, if painful to go through.
