The Sun moves into Gemini on 21st May at 04:33 Universal Time.
Gemini is the Peter Pan of the zodiac, the eternal child, the communicator - talker, mover, writer and traveller - he is active, logical and restless. Gemini is quick and swift, with hands and eyes that dart wearing winged boots - he is persuasive and intoxicating and can also be deceitful, tricky and amoral. It is an air sign and the Sun in Gemini fires movement - too much earthy practicality or watery emotion is not for him.
Gemini is the sign of the twins and being so restless, there is a certain indecisiveness about the sign. In the mythological stories of Hermes, Mercury and Castor and Pollux we can see Gemini's characteristics - untrustworthy, asexual, amoral, speedy, the reference to siblings and parentage and as the interpreter. Mercury, the ruling planet of Gemini is known as Hermes Psychopompus - The Conductor of the Soul. He has this name because of his ability to travel to the underworld unharmed - the messenger that can bridge worlds. Mercury is also the closest planet in our Solar System to the Sun, and we see him pop up in many stories as an aide on heroes quests. In the myth of Perseus for example he helped by offering him his winged sandals. In the myth of Apollo we see a young Mercury stealing his cattle. This perhaps epitomises the changeability of the sign.
As the third sign of the zodiac Gemini's role is to transmit that which has begun (Aries) and stabilised and grown (Taurus) to a wider audience - a different context and environment, hence the association with the Sun in Gemini to travelling, learning and culture. It is an appropriate time for all these pursuits with a twinkle in your eye ;-)
The next sign on is Cancer and therefore we see that the journey of Gemini is towards the heart. We will have this restless, unpredictable Sun in Gemini burning brightly during the upcoming passage of Uranus into Aries at the end of this month, and Jupiter into Aries early June. The challenge of the Cardinal Grand Cross - the feeling of being transported into new territory, and the feelings of also being boxed in and shaken up by events, all occur around this Sun. The best way to approach it is to use the swift energy to transport you to your hearts resting place, allowing inner transformation and alchemy to occur along the way.
