Jupiter Opposite Saturn

'Should I stay or should I go now? If I go there will be trouble, if I stay it will be double'
      The Clash

Jupiter and Saturn are in exact opposition aspect today.  These two have a 20 year cycle and are referred to as 'social planets'.  They provide a framework of restriction and growth in our lives and mark societal shifts in emphasis - often 10 years of growth, followed by 10 years of pruning (boom and bust might be more appropriate at this time).  We now have an opposition across Virgo/Pisces which will be repeated on two more occasions - 16th August 2010 and 28th March 2011 - the latter two oppositions across the Aries/Libra axis.

A retrograde Saturn in Virgo reveals an emphasis upon daily routine - health matters, work, diet etc. Those practical details and tracks we all tread in order to survive personally and socially.  Jupiter in Pisces denotes service in a wider context - our dreams and ideals for life, our hopes, faith and spirituality - what provides meaning above the scurrying.  Saturn and Jupiter, much like a Full Moon, are now in full awareness of each other - the glare is upon our daily lives and hopes for the future.  As the two planets mark shifts in emphasis - change is on the agenda.  We can see this very clearly with the financial and political upheaval that is occurring across the globe right now.

The theme for this first of three oppositions might well revolve around our working life - that 'framework' that both provides stability, predictability and security (Saturn) and which is an enabler of growth financially and socially (Jupiter).  There is of course a push-pull with these two - they represent opposing viewpoints and approaches.  The last conjunction (where they were together) was between 7th March 2000 and 25th January 2001.  This opposition is now a turning point, a 'gear shift' from events and attitudes that begun at that time.  The last time we felt an opposition such as we have now was between 16th March 1991 and 17th May 1991.  The conjunctions and oppositions of Saturn and Jupiter 'herald' new decades.

The lesson with the opposition is learning to relate and balance - to gain understanding of the other and appreciate that growth doesn't come without pain just as up doesn't come without down.  Steady as she grows might be an appropriate attitude right now.

As I've previously written, this aspect is part of the make up of the Cardinal Grand Cross that is now in the sky - Venus in Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn in Virgo opposes Jupiter/Uranus in Pisces - each planet then Squares (challenges) the other.  It is a cosmic melting pot of upheaval and change.  We might feel this somewhat today - the Moon in Virgo approaches Saturn as it makes its exact opposition to Jupiter.  Stay calm, breathe, and rejoice in new life being born from the ashes of the old - keep yourself in the dead centre of that cross and let the vibes flow :-)

The song lyric quote you've incorrectly attributed to the great Ray Davies is actually from The Clash written by Mick Jones and John Mellor. I love both of these artists so it caught my attention. Enjoying following your blog too.
