Venus in Gemini

'It is the springtime of my loving.  The second season, I am to know'
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page

Venus entered the sign of Gemini today where she will entertain the sign of the twins until 20th May 2010 (in Universal Time).

Whenever a planet enters Gemini there is an awakening.  Moving through Taurus the wanderer is slow and deliberate - there is a feeling of consolidation and experience of the self and bodily confinement - our shell.  Gemini transmits, exposes and opens up - it brings light and freshness.  This is a curious movement for Venus.  Taurus was her home sign - a sign of her dignity.  For Venus, this shift is reminiscent of a Queen going out to meet and greet her subjects.  Once dignified in her castle and now confronting the outside walls - exposure to a lack of dignity perhaps, but paradoxically, rather enjoying it.  The image of a lady handing out sweets to giggling children springs to mind.

Venus in Gemini is naughty you see.  It is a position of flirtation and sexual innuendo.  The duality of the sign brings thoughts of 'having your cake and eating it' (and with a cherry on top!).  Here, love enters the mental realm.  It can give rise to indecisiveness (wanting two lovers for instance) and mental stimulation.  It is similar in style to Venus in Virgo - both find words powerfully erotic.  It is here perhaps where the issue arises - confronted with choices Venus in Gemini wants both and in acting out this play elicits an amoral and androgynous tone in expression.  The quote from the comedian Bruce Forsyth might be applicable here 'You get nothing for a pair.  Not in this game!'

So, how might we utilise this energy?  In matters of love, it can offer originality and vitality to a stale partnership - opening the doors to sharing and exploring.  A period for fun, playfulness - revelling in the innocence of love - its essential purity.  Throw it around a little like a ball - see how it moves and shakes.  Enjoy the dynamic but you ultimately have to make a choice - to discriminate.  The shadow side of Venus in Gemini is in over intellectualising feelings.  The progression and 'meaning' of the time is to lead us to a more authentic and bonded place (the next home for Venus - Cancer) and to enjoy the journey there.  Staying in the 'chatter' of the mind and intellect becomes impersonal and separate, lacking in real quality.  Venus in Gemini can be stand offish and frigid if not led to greener pastures.

Like the spring is to the summer - ushering in the warmth, Venus in Gemini ushers in love to be played like a flute.  Bask in the symphony :-)
