Uranus in Aries

Uranus enters the first sign of the zodiac, Aries on May 28th 2010.  This is the third instalment of a series of articles (the first two being Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn in Libra) aimed at discussing the energies that could be presented at this time and how best to work with them.

Uranus is currently in Pisces and changes signs every 7 years.  It therefore does a full rotation of the zodiac every 84 years and its arrival in Aries is the beginning of a new cycle.  This is therefore a hugely significant event.  Transits of Uranus are quite often difficult to convey - the nature is unpredictable.  Therefore, forecasting what will happen is nigh on impossible but understanding how it might work isn't.  So..how might this transit affect us?  Well, any shift from Pisces into Aries is a dramatic one - it is a rebirth and sudden change - this could be pleasant or unpleasant.  We can therefore expect that in some area of our lives there will be a significant alteration and learning how to handle these new energies will be crucial to navigating the period and making the most from it.

Generally people are rather predictable - preferring comfort over chaos.   Being transported from one life scenario to another can produce shock.  Just as Uranus in Aries could be described as 'shocking' we might find ourselves like rabbits caught in the headlights of a car - frozen in time, as if the subtle Piscean nature cannot cope.  Anyone with particularly fixed charts or signs (Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius and Leo) could be prone to this reaction.  So how might the rabbit deal with the headlights?  Preparation and movement. Knowing that the glare could come from any direction and be prepared to move.  Moving forward, possibly into unknown territory is preferable to staying where you are - you know what'll happen to the rabbit if it does.  An 'inner shock absorber' would be invaluable - developing the flexibility to move from A to B with speed whilst keeping some equilibrium.

Uranus in Aries has qualities which are both stress relieving and potentially stress inducing.  The shift from Pisces could bring situations out of the doldrums - to shake them up, release them and shine light where there once was darkness and ambiguity.  If we've been stuck with something for a long time then this could change - gaining effective tools to manage change then will be crucial - think of the rabbit story - he maybe has to walk into that copse he's never been before to escape the glare.  Anything we can develop now that is new and innovative (even attitudes) would serve us well as we then take ownership; some measure of control.  This lessens the shock of being put, against our will, into sudden unfamiliar territory.

The start of a new cycle brings an essence of the new and immature with it.  It is confrontational, cuts red tape, youthful and direct.  Therefore learning moderation will be important.  Blowing a fuse, going too far with extremist views of doing things differently and selfishness could lead to some catastrophic trips and falls from elevated positions if we're not careful.  Uranus in Aries puts the 'I' in collective but does it impersonally;  watch out for developing attitudes such as 'it's not me it's them' or 'I'm only doing what is right'.

It is perhaps fortunate that Uranus in Aries is opposed by Saturn in Libra.  As mentioned in the previous article, building relationship and relational bridges will provide the temperance needed to expose the positive personal insights that can come at this time.  No man is an island.

I am a cancer, with an aries ascendent. How does the uranus moving into aries affect me.

Tony Vowles said...

It depends upon the degree of your ascendant. The cardinal cross is sitting over your 4 angles which suggests major life changes - Uranus in your 1st house will create independence - new ways of approaching situations, a change of image perhaps and Jupiter crossing it also will make those changes bigger! The stress will likely enter from the Saturn opposition in your relationships and Pluto in Capricorn - your career and home life

I don't understand. Some astrological forecasts say that Uranus stays in Pisces till 2010.Some say it departs on 28th May 2010 and then goes into Aries.Who is right??

Tony Vowles said...

Both are right! Uranus enters Aries on 28th May 2010 - retrogrades back into Pisces on the 14th August 2010 end re-enters Aries again on the 12th March 2011 - what we experience now will be a brief surge of what is to come properly in 2011 and onwards - hope that helps!

With regards to relocation (and if you know your accurate birth time) I would suggest you obtain an astrocartography report - you can get them at the Astrology Shop www.astrology.co.uk - it'll show the kind of energies present for you in different locations.

Sagittarius Rising - look to the house where Uranus is now - and also look to the house cusp ruled by Uranus in your natal chart (the one with Aquarius on the cusp) as well as aspects to and from to get a picture of the events that may take place.

I am a cancer with cancer rising. How will Uranus in aries affect me?

My poor Moon!

In my natal chart it is at 0 cancer 36. I have had Pluto play with it, then Saturn, now Uranus.

I also have Chiron at 1 Aries 10 and North Node at 9 Aries 46.

Can anyone shed some light? Should I just hide in a cave?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for writing such a insightful and helpful blog! I am a Pisces, March 4, and wonder how Uranus shift from Pisces and into Aries will impact me? This is quite an amazing time of transformations, endings, and new beginnings all ready, but what more will Uranus-Aries bring??

Best Always,
Karlie

Rose - hide in a cave? no no no! I would suggest the opposite - this is your time Rose - such powerful transits set you up for the rest of your days - honour them, this is God's gift to you - you will emerge from the chaos and uncertainty a rock - unshakeable and unmoveable - keep that in mind Rose. Far worse to have such dull and uninspiring transits - these Rock! I would suggest (if you don't already) that you try and look within to the source of your pain - try meditation, yoga - anything that will get you in tune and balanced emotionally - at this time in your life, insights from these practices could come thick and fast - and surprise you.

Karlie - thank you for your kind words - what more? what more is there but walk into the light - what leaves you is better off left behind - like children that are free with eyes that stare in wonder at simple things. Breathe and feel the love and power of an endless universe. Everything else is irrelevant except only to make you aware that it is :-)

I am a Leo (28 degrees) with Scorpio (14 degrees) ascendant. Moon is in Saggitarius.
How will Uranus entering Aries effect me?

Thank you - Elizabeth

Tony,thank you very much.

Being a Lunar Cancerian the urge to hide in a shell or under a rock is hard to resist ;o)

I was hoping for some good times and glee, lol. But I don't think I am on this planet for that.

Just had Pluto transit my natal Virgo Stellium from Jupiter at 17 or so degrees, via my exact Sun/Pluto conjunction at 22 to Uranus at 29 degrees or so.

Given that I also have Venus, MC and Mercury all conjunct at 16, 17 and 18 degrees Libra in addition to those Aries planets, if I survive the oncoming storm I will survive anything.

There is nothing left untouched ;o)

Thank God and Goddess I have the natural philosophical humour of a Saggi asc and 9th house Virgo stellium!

wow! thank u for such a valuable insight. u just dont know how much it helps me right now with all this cosmic and internal drama i am facing. I am a cancer with aries rising. I have pluto, mars and saturn in libra. Oh boy, just imagine what my life is right now. With all this cardinal crisis thing, they are true to me. seems like everything is going so fast. could hardly breathe. i wonder what does this mean for me, having planets like that i said above. share ur insights, please. i wud highly appreciate it.

Tony Vowles said...

Hi there Ann - times of crises are huge growth points in life - it sounds as if you are going through one of these. There isn't much more I can add except to say that there is a powerful eclipse at the end of this month (26th June) where issues will come to a turning point. You are also approaching your Saturn return (between the age of 28-30) - that's a seminal moment of 'coming of age' as it were that will springboard you into a new way of life - depending on your own chart and life that can come with its own struggle or the opposite - a time of fruition from what you've worked hard for. Either way, they are moments of growth and change - embrace them Ann, difficulties will ease soon enough.

Ann Belle said...

hay, tony i really hope it will ease soon. thank u for ur help and for being generous. other astrologers whom i somehow asked werent as generous as u are. i hope to read more of ur insights. prolly more of the eclipse that is coming later this month. i am terribly scared of it. i got traumatized with the last eclipse on dec-jan. i dunno if i can handle that again. :=(

Hi Tony, I am a Virgo with Virgo ascendant in 9 degrees. And my Sun is in 16 Degrees Virgo and Moon is in 9 Degrees Libra. I was wondering if you would be able to provide me with further insight to how this will start to affect me this month? Will this be the start of major changes?

Tony Vowles said...

Mars crosses your ascendant on the 23rd June which is a good moment to initiate personal drive, energy, plans and then Conjuncts your Sun on 6th July - same thing. The next month is well starred to kick things (make sure they aren't arguments though!). This years eclipse on the 26th June is a big one for everyone.

Hi, I write from Italy, i was born on 30th april 1977 and i'm living in fear of Uranus transit in conjunction to my natal Mars in first house at 1.52 Aries...Mars is also Lordo of eighth house, so i'm afraid I'm gonna die, and I feel really really bad...

Tony Vowles said...

Anon - you've already lived through Uranus in Square to your Mars - you didn't die then did you? You've also had semi-square and semi-sextile - same thing. Relax - don't look at Astrology in such a fatalist way. If you have Uranus on your Mars in Aries then now is a perfect time to do something energetic - be bold, creative, original, active - burn up that Uranus/Mars heat with something purposeful. That is how to utilise astrology positively.

I once said that this Uranus transit would be like being zapped in the butt by a loose streak of lightning. I want it to be exciting though. Even though I'm Aquarian, this looks like the start of my worrisome mid life crisis. Or does it? I remember the Charlie Chan movies. Mr. Chan was like a calm sage, like Confucius, in a way, but his son, No 1 Son, was all boyish fire and energy, like Uranus in Aries. Under that energy lots can get done. Charlie Chan like Saturn in Libra, but right now we need the energy and enthusiasm more.

Tony Vowles said...

Call it mid-life enlightenment instead - at least it sounds better :-) Thanks for reminding me of those charlie chan movies! loved them when I were a wee lad :-)

From Naomi

Hi, thanks so much for the awesome site! :)* I have been feeling somewhat nervous about this transit. I am a Gemini with Leo rising (11˚) and Venus in Leo(1˚), Mars in Aries(13˚), Jupiter in Aries (18˚) and Chiron in Aries all in the 8th house˚, plus pluto(6˚) and Uranus in Libra (28˚) and True Node at 0˚ Sagittarius. I was wondering how the transit might effect me? Is it just the planets in a close orb (say within 3˚) where I will feel the main effects? Or will it just hit everything? Aquarius in on my 7th house- relationship upheavals? hmmm...

Tony Vowles said...

Hi Naomi - there's definitely no need to feel nervous at all - the universe brings us these gifts in order to move on and find our path in life. you've already had a preview of Jupiter/Uranus in Aries back in May 2010 - what happened then? that'll give you a clue to what you might expect when Uranus comes back to Aries on 12th March 2011 (Jupiter enters Aries on 23rd January 2011). With your placements as they are a new era of learning perhaps? New philosphies or travelling? A home move?

Hi Tony

Glad I found this blog!! I am a Sag 24' moon Aquarius 20'Leo (8th house) Rising 3' conj jupiter..so Uranus rules both my 7th and 8th..(natally in the 3rd house conj pluto in virgo)..I've had nothing but heartache in my personal life in the last 2 years and turning (44)soon in Dec ok with that, but a bit fed up of trying!:)) I'm interested in Uranus's move to Aries that is my MC 7' as its currently squaring my sun ( born with it anyway) in pisces - I started a on-line fashion biz in Feb this year and things were moving very swiftly along in May then stalled in June..wondering if you could shed some light on what effects Uranus will have on my career and new chosen path in technology -on-line biz as it rules my moon too? Thanks so much

What a really terrific article you wrote there Tony - great stuff indeed.
I am an Aquarius born 17th Feb and I'm thinking of moving from Western Europe to West Africa (work and pleasure) soon, and I wondered if that seemed like something that could be beneficial for me after a long period in the doldrums with some depression with low energy and a semi stalled career.
I've been to West Africa before, so not many hidden surprises there for me, but I absolutely love the place.
Thanks a lot.
