I'll begin with none other than William Shakespeare's 'Two loves I have of comfort and despair'. This poem, for me, describes someone who has the Sun in Libra and Venus in Scorpio - quite a challenging combination and close to my heart as I have it!
Two loves I have of comfort and despair,
Which like two spirits do suggest me still.
The better angel is a man right fair,
The worser spirit a woman coloured ill.
To win me soon to hell my female evil
Tempteth my better angel from my side,
And would corrupt my saint to be a devil,
Wooing his purity with her foul pride.
And whether that my angel be turned friend,
Suspect I may, yet not directly tell,
But being both from me both to each friend,
I guess one angel in another's hell.
Yet this shall I ne'er know but live in doubt,
Till my bad angel fire my good one out.
Libra is a relationship sign. It is light, flirtatious and communicative. The love nature of Libra is rich but it is also quite facile - surface impressions are important - it does not like mess or complexity in love - preferring a more romantic haze. If you are a Libra then the position of Venus is important and will colour the impression of your love nature. Venus in Scorpio is a sign in its detriment - this means that the Venus love nature functions with dis-ease. It is plain to see why. Scorpio is deep and complex. It functions intensely, emotionally, with an over arching fear of letting go and a desire to let go. The poem by Shakespeare speaks of comfort and despair - rather like walking around as an angel with the devil on your shoulder. This is how Sun in Libra/Venus in Scorpio might feel. The intense desire nature of Scorpio confuses Libra, shakes him from his perch. He'll feel the emotional benefit from Scorpio can add to his qualities, but the detriment provokes an ill at ease with it. An intense desire nature might be evident ('wooing his purity with her foul pride'), temptation ('tempteth my better angel from my side') and very Libranesque vacillation about what to do and how to work with the feelings ('Suspect I may yet not directly tell').
Ultimately, despite the challenge, Libra can benefit enormously from Scorpio. The added depth and influx of emotion can lead the sign to share emotionally at a level which the sign could not possibly reach - and Libra is a relationship sign after all.

Thank you Tony!
I LOVE your new Poerty corner! :)
Nice idea Tony. And nice poem. I like how he acknowledges that each angel lives in the other's hell: no judgment there. And his assumption that the bad angel will fire the good one out. Not that I'm sure I'm interpreting it correcting.
I can relate somewhat with Sun in Sag, Venus in Scorpio, and Mars in Libra. It took me years to want to embrace that Venus; she wasn't as much fun as I wanted her to be. She kept getting attached.
Hi Ellen - thankyou! Yes, Shakespeare seems to acknowledge the need for integration of the two sides of the personality in the poem. I think the bad angel firing the good one out says that Libra has to stand up - find some Aries to deal with Venus in Scorpio - use it as a source of strength or it's gonna fire you out! I think Jupiter has a big part to play in relationship energy too - Stephen Arroyo mentions this in some of his work - that Venus equates to the desire and need and Jupiter is how you might go about getting it. With it dispositing your Sagittarius Sun does that relate?
Neat idea, Tony. I've got one from pre-computer days laying about. When I dig it up I'll drop it by for your consideration.
Thanks Johhny - I'd love to receive contributions! More the merrier :-)
Hi Tony,
The poetry corner is a great addition to your blog. I nearly typed addiction then, still thinking on your Sun ruler being in Scorpio. I have Venus square Pluto, so I can relate. I love the way you explained how your nature can be so complex, with the light and dark shades. Poetry does capture the imagination. I have a habit of picking songs for aspects or signs, I guess this is a kind of poetry, or just words to music Lol. I look forward to reading more astro related poetry ;)
Well, you asked for it. I finally found it, or should I say some NINETEEN different versions of it, in a cob-webbed filing cabinet, buried in our storage shed.
Stargazer
I track the planets across
familiar coffee-stained pages
of a dog eared ephemeris,
look up into the urgent eyes of a stranger,
leaning forward, haunches catching
the edge of a chair
perched on its two front legs.
Here on my pad – a chart,
your fingerprint on infinity.
I read what you need,
tell you what you want…
and, turning away
you fill in the rest
with what you think I said.
In the morning, bags packed,
you clank your keys on the kitchen counter
and catch the Westbound 6:15.
I heat last night’s stale coffee,
burn the toast again
and stare into the pre-dawn winter sky,
Venus rising.
Thanks Tony. I am a Libra sun with a Venus in Scorpio. Not so long ago I fell in love with a song from Katie Melua. After reading your blog I understand why it attracts me. It rings home
Got an angel, on one shoulder and a devil on the other,
And his good advice that I take.
I live with a sprinkle of a little sin,
When the world is asleep I'm awake.
With the roll of my dirty dice,
I'm only following the devil's advice.
I'll take your love and leave my kind regards,
But I never cheat at cards.
So you really think you're leading,
When we tango across the floor.
It's only cause my feet are out of sight.
Mine is the hand that spins you round,
Then it pushes you out into the night.
With the roll of my dirty dice,
I'm only following the devil's advice.
I'll take your love and leave my kind regards,
But I never cheat at cards.
With the roll of my dirty dice,
I'm only following the devil's advice.
I'll take your love and leave my kind regards,
But I never cheat at cards
